Travel Tips

PORTO

Getting Here & Accommodation

Easiest is to fly to Porto airport and from there get the metro, taxi, Bolt or Uber to the city.

There are plenty of options from air bnb to hotels.

We are staying in the same neighborhood of the venue, by the sea, but distances in Porto are fairly short if you wish to stay downtown.

Transport runs all day and night.

Now ideas for what to do while in Porto

(disclaimer from Joana: it's been ten years since I left this amazing city, my advice may be old school so do check fresher travel guides!)

Starting near the sea:

Walk around Parque da Cidade, have a cafe or lunch at Soundwhich;

Nearby museums: Casa da Arquitectura and Museu de Serralves;

You can sunbathe in any of the beaches, just check out for the flags that will tell you if the tides are safe to to swim. For surfing go to Leça da Palmeira; in the same area check out the outdoor swimming pools

For lunch there are plenty of grilled fish places in Matosinhos!

At sunset, walk by the sea, until you get to my favourite lighthouse from there you can continue walking until Ribeira (the river side).

For dinner (beautiful view by the water): Casa d'Oro; Bocca; Casa d'Oro; WOW World of Wine (acroos the river)

Downtown:

Casa da Música then walk to Rua Miguel Bombarda (lots of arts and crafts);

Palacio de Cristal for a greener walk with a view to the river;

Check out Livraria Lello bookshop;

For lunch: O Caraças; for a classic Francesinha Bufete Fase (cash only); or another classic Casa Guedes.

For drinks: Terra Plana; Capela Incomum; Candelabro; Catraio Craft Beers.

Dinner: Museu d'Avó; Maus Hábitos;

Going out at night: Ferro Bar for concerts; Plano B for clubbing.

Other areas in Portugal

Most places are best to explore by car (except from Lisboa!)

🍷 Douro Vinyards (boat trip + wine tasting)

🤍 Lisboa (the second best city ;)

🌊 Costa Vicentina (beaches + surf)
